During the first Ed Session block, I attended the Excellence in Programming presentations. Katie and Lisa did wonderful representing BSU and PC! By viewing other schools’ presentations, I gained some great ideas for next year’s presentation. For example, one school gave a handout in the shape of their mascot that listed the basics of their school and organization. Many schools also focused on how their programs were adaptable to other schools. One schools presentation even revolved around the conference theme.
For Educational Session block number three, I attended “Getting Your Dysfunctional Group to Function as a Team”. This session really provided me with some valuable insight on how to work better with both E-board and members alike. For example, communicating how to do something and explaining the value in doing something, and also to understand and remember peoples’ working styles. Many ideas are things I think we’ve already been trying to do; but, this presenter’s fresh insight reminded me why they are so important and to be consistent when doing these things. Some memorable quotes include: “without conflict there is no growth”; “challenge other and be willing to be challenged”; “don’t keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting the same results”; “if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem”; “bitch sessions do not move anybody forward”.
