Ed Sessions!

I’ve been looking over the Ed Sessions and am sad that I can really only attend 2 sessions altogether on Saturday, but at least I get to go to something so I’m excited! Everyone will just have to take amazing notes on the sessions you go to! 🙂

First, there’s this one:

What do George Clooney, Abraham Lincoln, and Michael Phelps have in common?
Facing challenges is a part of any leadership role, especially student leaders. In this session, we will talk about famous leaders who have overcome great challenges in their lives, as well as discuss ways to go about making those challenges into learning opportunities.
           Erin Roberts
           Graduate Assistant of Operations
           Emerson College
           Erin Morrell
Assistant Dean for Campus Activities and Orientation
           Albertus Magnus College
Time: 11/6/2010 9:00:00 AM – 10:00:00 AM
Audience: Student
Room: 11

I think this session sounds very interesting, AND it’s presented by one of Program Committee’s very own, Erin Roberts! This could  be a great session! 🙂

Using Language to Build an Inclusive Foundation on your Campus
Words and symbols shape society. Learn how the language we use impacts others both positively and negatively. What can we do as leaders to assure that our community is one that people feel safe and included in? Learn what one Community College is doing to spread the word on this issue and discuss how you may be able to bring it back to your campus.
           Amy Kelly
Assistant Coordinator Student Engagement & Activities
           Northern Essex Community College
Time: 11/6/2010 9:00:00 AM – 10:00:00 AM
Audience: Staff & Students
Room: 13

This session sounded interesting as well because I wouldn’t say I need everything to be politically correct all the time, but I do wish people would watch what they say more. Also, it would be interesting to see what they say about making the community safer and to include everyone..I am such an includer haha 🙂

There is also a session on getting team/club members MOTIVATED which I thought would be very interesting because sometimes it’s hard to get people excited for things these days!!

This is the session I am talking about:

A Totally Motivated Team – Imagine That!
No one seems excited anymore. Members aren’t coming to meetings like they should. If everyone would do what you ask, just imagine what you could accomplish. The easy answer to this dilemma – motivation. Come learn about why motivation is important, identify motivators for others and yourself, and find out how to take steps to motivate your group to succeed. Let’s all get motivated – YIPPEE!
           Tanya McGinn Paolo
           Director of Student Activities
           Johnson & Wales University
Time: 11/6/2010 9:00:00 AM – 10:00:00 AM
Audience: Staff & Students
Room: 26

It will be hard to choose just one of these to go to since they are all at the same time! Decisions Decisions!

Jacqui Volkmann (All but West & NST)
           Coleman Productions, Inc.
Jon Shyer (All but MAT & CEN)
           Auburn Moon Agency
           Nick Ferrucci (All)
           On That Note Entertainment
Time: 11/6/2010 10:10:00 AM – 11:10:00 AM
Audience: Student
Room: 27

I think this session at 10:10 is very interesting, especially since I have not given up the idea to pursue Student Affairs in the future. Everytime I learn more and more about Student Affairs, my interest in Grad School for SA grows!

Anyways, that’s all for now. Time to study for a midterm!

  1. the session with clooney, phelps, and whoever the other guy was sounds really cool! I think its always interesting to learn how other people deal with conflicts and challenges, so you can then use it yourself in the future! See you at this session!!! 🙂

  2. I like the ed sessions you picked! I think the success story of Abe Lincoln is fascinating, and I didn’t know that George Clooney and Michael Phelps had a similar story. Also, I really like the language one. I think it’s easy to forget when we make posters or do publicity that sometimes the wording is what really can peak a person’s interest in an event.
